Tradition of King Cake for Mardi Gras
To be honest, I've had a few tastes of a King Cake. Not my fave. But to each their own, I guess.
The tradition of the King Cake is to find the baby. Somewhere in the cake is a little baby. If you find the piece with the baby in it, you apparently will experience good luck and prosperity for the remainder of the year.
Finding a King Cake here in Minnesota might be a bit difficult. Some bakeries might make them, but generally they have to be ordered from a bakery in the New Orleans or Louisiana area. There are some recipes online that you can find as well.
King Cakes are generally associated with the beginning of the Lenten Season and Mardi Gras celebrations. Today, being Fat Tuesday means- find a King Cake and grab a piece. Maybe you will find the baby in your particular piece of cake. There's a chance.
