Tucked away at the end of a back road in central Minnesota, one of the state's largest herds of bison roam the 1200+ acre ranch known as Backroad Bison.

Spring is here, finally. One of the signs that spring is here is when we see animals start to give birth. A local bison herd, one of the biggest in the state, is located not to far from Saint Cloud, and they just welcomed in twins! Check out the cute pics!

Backroad Bison, based out of Hillman, shared the photos of the new newborns on social media yesterday.

We had twins last week, and so far, Mama is doing amazing with both of them!

Bison twins are/were thought to be rare, but we’ve had multiple sets born on the ranch. This, however, is the first time for us that Mama has taken to both.

Twins with bison are rare, but not uncommon, as they do happen. Back in 2012, a Michigan bison herd saw a pair of twins in the same season. In an online article about that happening, a bison expert stated that seeing twins with bison is a good sign for herd health.

"Jim Matheson, assistant director of the National Bison Association, said twin bison are fairly rare in the industry and he typically hears of five or fewer pairs born each year, adding twins typically are a sign of a healthy herd."

The last time Minnesota saw the birth of twin bison was in 2023, according to the Pioneer Press'two baby bison were born at Dakota County's Spring Lake Park Reserve, which was a surprise to the park's natural resource manager.'
