Washing the Dishes Can Benefit Your Health…Really!
Tired of ducking flying cast iron skillets? Do you need to be productive while also improving your mental health? Does a 13-hour marathon Call of Duty session not count in your household?
Try this one simple trick that'll leave your dishes - and your brain - spotless!
Warsh the Dishes For Your Health
Florida State University took a break from studying Florida Man sightings and instead did some researching on how an iconic (and annoying) household chore can improve mental health. Not sure where they got the idea from, but it was probably Florida Man.
FSU broke 51 students into two groups, giving (just over or under) half of them a passage to read that describes the full dishwashing experience, while the rest read a passage about simply getting the dishes clean. Both groups were then asked to wash dishes. The Gen-Zers then immediately broke down and started to cry.
What Actually Happened
To reiterate: the "Gen Zers crying" line was just a joke.
The students who read about the full-on experience reported a 27% decrease in nervousness and a 25% increase in mental inspiration.
Mental inspiration? Don't we just look at memes for that?
Note: the dishes given to the students were actually clean. I'm guessing that if they had 3-day-hardened food stuck to them, the benefits would be a bit (read: a lot) lower.
But look at the bright side: it might get the kids (or the husband) to finally just DO THE DAMN DISHES.
