From Dun Laoghaire, Ireland comes a band led by Bob Geldof (singer/songwriter) known as The Boomtown Rats
Bob would go on to fame as the brainchild behind the Live Aid (1986) and Live 8 (2005). Both of which were benefit concerts.
The Rats had earlier hit singles in the U.K., however; they are more identified with the 1979 hit single, "I Don't Like Mondays."
The Boomtown Rats essential songs:
- "Like Clockwork"
- "Rat Trap"
- "I Don't Like Mondays"
From their album, 'The Fine Art Of Surfacing', "I Don't Like Mondays" is a song about a young 16 year old girl named Brenda Spencer, from San Diego. A high school student who lived across the street from an elementary school.
Monday, January 29, 1979, she opened fire on the school with a rifle, killed 2 adults and injured 9 kids before going back to her home. She is quoted as saying, "Nobody Likes Mondays."
