Having split from his original trio and hooking up with members of The McCoys which includes guitarist Rick Derringer, Winter takes an even more aggressive rock path.

'Johnny Winter And' is his fourth studio LP (1970) it would be the first album with Rick Derringer as a sideman.

The highlight of this projects transformation would be Rick Derringer's shout out to his early musical roots, "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo," a tune Winter chomps down on like a hungry animal.

"This is fine stuff, by far the best thing Johnny Winter has done. And that's saying something" (Rolling Stone 1970).
