The St. Cloud Northwoods League announced last night that their team name will be the St. Cloud Rox.

The Rox will continue to play at Joe Faber Field for the 2012 season but that’s about the only thing fans can expect to be similar from the St. Cloud franchise.

At the press conference to reveal the new name, Scott Schreiner, Rox Vice President said;

“The entire experience at the ballpark should feel like something new in 2012. Having Northwoods League baseball is incredible for a community like St. Cloud and we think people will rally behind the Rox name because of the historical ties.”

This team name had been in use previously by a team who was part of the Northern League. They were in operation from the mid 1940’s until 1971 and even featured Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock.

“This name resonates with a lot of people.” Schreiner said. “To have the past meet the present is going to lead to something special at Joe Faber Field this summer.”

Once the ownership group was announced the team decided to hold a contest where fans could submit name ideas, which garnered over 1,200 submissions, many asking the club to use the name Rox.

“I’ve been in this community my whole life, and I know what the name Rox means to people around here.” Team President and co-owner Gary Posch said. “We decided it was a great idea and I think the community will really support this team name.”

The team kicks off their inaugural season on May 30 and will start their home schedule with a bang on June 2 with a magnificent fireworks show.

Individual tickets won’t go on sale until later in the spring but fans can already get their hands on the brand new Rox merchandise simply by contacting the front office or going online to their new website. Season tickets and group packages are also available by contacting the front office at (320) 240-9798.
