Steely Dan's  fourth album release 'Katy Lied' had basically became the sonic reflection of two great talents, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker.

Unfortunately, no longer a touring unit, however; a total studio entity.

Buried away in The Village Recorder studios in West L.A. in late 1974, with hand picked musicians, Donald and Walter would design each of the songs the team had co-written.

Katy Lied:

'Katy Lied' would prove to become a master piece that would feature great, such as; Rick Derringer, Michael McDonald, Larry Carlton, Phil Woods and Jeff Pocaro.

It was all assembled as to which artist would best suit a particular song on the album.

The team of Fagen,Becker and producer Gary Katz showed us how masterful they would be with albums to come, 'The Royal Scam' (1976), 'Aja' (1977) and 'Gaucho' (1980).

'Katy Lied' released in 1975, holds a strange yet disturbing power to it.

Other Fine crafted songs on 'Katy Lied' include:

  • "Black Friday"
  • "Doctor Wu"
  • "Bad Sneakers"
  • "Rose Darling"
  • "Daddy Won't Live In That New York City No More"
  • "Everyone's Gone To The Movies"
  • "Your Gold Teeth II"
  • "Chain Lightening"
  • "Any World"
  • "Throw Back The Little Ones"
