If you had to guess a band that innovated hard rock as we know it what band would you say? I'm guessing The Who.

Give a listen to the band's  album, 'My Generation' which happens to be their first, you'll hear what I mean.

The Who's essential songs:

  • "My Generation"
  • "A Legal Matter"
  • "Out in the Street"

In regards to the song "Out In The Street", "This was going to be a single. I hate that 'no, no, no' bit. It was originally 'show me, show me' but Kit Lambert (record producer and manager of The Who) thought it wasn't very good. He wrote all the new lyrics. I'm not going to take the blame for any of them. It sounds all cut about and edited." (Pete Townsend)
