With the unrest going on in the Middle East, specifically the U.S. airstrike that killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, the internet has been flooded with memes suggesting an impending draft. Military officials have clarified that a decision to enact the draft is not made by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command.

The U.S. Army CGSC tweeted the above in response to the many messages that have been going out. The messages are FALSE, they are FRAUDULENT, and you would not get a text message if there was, in fact, a draft. The sheer numbers of people concerned after receiving a message even shut down the Selective Service System's website, as people were trying to confirm their registration.

According to Fox9:

The United States Military has been an all-volunteer service and has not enacted a draft since 1973.

There has not been a draft since 1973...so not since the Vietnam War. The draft has not been enacted for the entirety of my life, and I thought I was old. Remember to check your facts and know that Congress and the President would need to pass legislation, which would certainly be in the news.
