Former South African President Nelson Mandela turned 93 Monday and was wished well by some very famous friends.

U2 took it upon themselves to wish Mandela a happy birthday in the middle of their show in Philadelphia with an audience sing along. The bit was filmed for playback during a star-studded gala honoring Mandela in New York City.

Actor Morgan Freeman was in attendance at the dinner party in Manhattan on Monday. Freeman portrayed Mandela in the film Invictus and he earned an Academy Award nomination for the role. Mandela himself was not present at the soiree thrown in his honor. He instead chose to mark the occasion with his family in his native South Africa.

U2 meanwhile is continuing on with their 360 World Tour. They will be playing TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday.
