A New Album From Prince?
Well, it's been just about five years since we lost Prince to an accidental drug overdose and I really didn't think we'd ever see anything new from Prince, except maybe a "Best Of" type release.
Twitter was alive recently with news from the Prince Estate and Sony Legacy Recordings of a new previously unreleased studio album entitled "Welcome 2 America".
According to the Twitter posts the studio album was recorded before Prince's Welcome 2 America tour and the album "documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice."
And there is a pretty cool bonus that comes with the album. a Blue-ray of a concert recorded in The Forum in California in 2011 that will be included in the Deluxe Edition of "Welcome 2 America."
Prince also teamed up with some pretty talented people on this project. People like Tal Wilkenfeld, who has appeared often on bass with Jeff Beck, Shelby J, Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorillo.
If you want to listen to the title track of "Welcome 2 America" you can stream it on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and Amazon Music.
Hard to believe it's been 5 years already since Prince left the planet from an accidental opioid overdose. Prince was only 57 when he passed and I can only imagine that he had a lot of great music left in him. April 21st will mark 5 years since his death.
Prince's former home in Chanhassen, Paisley Park, is now a museum, recording studio and a sometime concert venue.
The new album "Welcome 2 America" will be released July 30th
