When you move to a new state, hopefully you understand there will be a learning curve, in just about everything. Especially when you move to a different part of the country.

The “lingo” can be dramatically different which can be a bit of a hurdle, also the customs to that area. I’m from North Carolina and prior to moving to Minnesota last September, I had only lived on the East Coast; North Carolina, Virginia, and for a short period of time in the early 90’s South Carolina.

There are some similarities to the cultures from there to here, but there are big differences. I’ve tried explaining Meat Raffles and Pull Tabs to my friends and family in the South and they struggle to wrap their brains around it.

I learned something over the weekend, which was new to me, and apparently something that I’ve missed to this point about Minnesota, Pizza Farms.

Despite the fact I grew up in the south, I didn’t spend much time on farms, I’m familiar but not experienced by any stretch of the imagination, so the idea of a pizza farm intrigued me.

I was looking for something for my wife and I to do before the fall, and came across Pizza Farms on Explore Minnesota. They say there are several farms around the state that offer delicious pizza topped with farm fresh ingredients.

Here’s a list of five farms I found by doing a Google search:

Squash Blossom Farm in Oronoco Mn.- Their website says, “Local Food, Local Art, Local Music”. They featured artisan sourdough breads and pastries, wine and live music in addition to pizza.

Pleasant Grove Pizza Farm in Waseca Mn.- They are a “Clean” farm which means you must dispose of your own trash and recyclables. You’ll also need to bring your own temporary table, blanket, and chairs. As well as bring your own plates, utensils and napkins.

Alpha and Omega Farm in Princeton Mn.- This farm touts their authentic thin crust Italian style pizzas and their location and facilities to help bring together the community, businesses or friends who need to re-connect. Plus, they offer Goat Yoga.

The Back 40 Farm in Willmar Mn.- This farm combines a deep love of family with their love of farm life. The Back 40 offers Minnesota Wood Fired Pizza options, plus you can get your grass-fed beef there as well.

Dream Acres in Wykoff Mn.- They offer pizza on Fridays from May until September. While you’re there you can learn about the Arts Initiative they have in place in Fillmore County.

These are just five that I found in a google search, you may find or know of more.

Some of these farms serve pizza on a limited schedule, and many of them feature animals and live music as well. The best suggestion seems to be to research where you want to go to make sure you and your family are equipped to enjoy the experience.

Now the biggest decision my wife and I face is which one of these do we try first?
