During the week rent an apartment over by SCSU, just down the street from the hockey arena. One would think that this would be a relatively crime free area except for underage drinking and general college hijinks. I can live with that.

I've been in this apartment for about two and a half years and watched the crime increase every year. I'm sure it's not just my neighborhood. Crime seems to be on the upswing all over the St Cloud area.

Last Friday, there was a drive by shooting at the park just down the street from where my apartment is.  According to the St Cloud Police Department, officers got a report of a drive by shooting near the Reach Up Park shortly after 8 o'clock Friday night.

Two 17 year old boys were each hit once by gunfire, according to police and were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Both are reported to be in stable condition.

Police say a person in a white sedan fired several shots at the teens as the car passed the park at the 1100 block of 10th Avenue Southeast and fled the seen. A motive for the shooting has not been determined, according to police, and they are asking for the public's help for information about the shooting.

No information on whether this was a targeted shooting or random.

If you have any information you are asked to contact the St Cloud Police or Tri-County Crime Stoppers.

At any rate, it's sad that we have to fear this senseless kind of violence in St Cloud.
