Make sure you know what drawing date the ticket shows along with the date you're comparing your numbers to! These restaurant workers didn't, and thought they won.

A group of restaurant workers at Grissini Ristorante in New Jersey purchased a bunch of tickets for Saturday's Powerball drawing, and were hardly able to contain excitement as they read the numbers on one of their tickets while their bartender relayed the winning numbers to them. By the time they read aloud all the numbers in front of all their patrons, the entire place erupted in cheers and tears of joy. One of the workers even quit his job, thinking he was a multi-millionaire!

What they didn't realize until double-checking their winning ticket numbers, they were comparing the numbers to Wednesday's Powerball drawing and NOT Saturday's Powerball!

I'm not sure how that's even possible unless you checked in the following ways:

  1. Didn't wait until the official drawing time and thought you were looking at that day's numbers.
  2. Looked at Powerball's website and were looking at past drawing numbers (why would you do that????).
  3. Had a complete idiot telling you what the winning numbers were, in which case he's likely to live a life with very little friends at this point.

Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is now estimated at $1.5 BILLION dollars. I have a feeling this isn't the only time this will happen come Thursday...
