MN Families Will Not Get Stimulus Checks For Children Over 16
Last week's 2.2 trillion dollar stimulus package will give $1200 to adults earning less than 75 thousand and $2400 to couples earning less than $150,000. Also $500 for dependent children under the age of 17.
So, the bill excludes dependent children over 16, including college students. U.S. Rep. Angie Craig says is "a real problem" that Congress needs to address.
"I believe this was an oversight in the bill," Craig said. "This is going to be a real problem for working families in this country who think all of their dependents are going to be eligible for a $500 rebate."
Craig said she would file legislation to pay these families retroactively.
The IRS says the stimulus payments will begin in the next 3 weeks. They have published guidance at irs.gov
