In the wake of the shootings and other issues, the Minnesota State Fair has beefed up security for this year.   There will be the normal bag checks that they have been doing for the last 4 years, plus, if you drive a car into the fair grounds area, your car will be thoroughly searched as well.  They want to make sure that NO ONE has a weapon, and that everyone at the Great Minnesota Get-Together will feel safe.

"There will be additional police officers, we are increasing security at every gate, and we're adjusting traffic and parking procedures," Jerry Hammer, the fair's General Manager, said.

That additional security, along with more cameras and staff training, adds to what Hammer says is an already comprehensive security plan.

"People are used to increased security at public events," he said. "For the most part, they appreciate it. That's what we're doing. We're just doing everything we can to deliver the usual awesome and safe experience at this year's Minnesota State Fair."

Although I cannot believe that the fair is already right around the corner, which to me kind of marks the unofficial end to summer, here it is.  And I'm glad that people can feel somewhat secure at the Minnesota State Fair, which is an event I love!

Happy Fair time!
