About year ago I declared that the summer of 2012 was going to be the best summer ever for films. Avengers, Skyfall, The Hobbitt, Batman, Prometheus, Men In Black 3, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (screw you, it was awesome!). It seems as though I was a year early saying that, cuz the Summer of 2013 is going to be the best summer ever for films.

And yes, I've already started my article for next summer (Avengers 2, DUH!), so just shut up and keep reading.

GI Joe: Retaliation got me in the mood early back in March and OZ ramped it up a bit. Now Iron Man 3 was supposed to kick the summer off, but for me, that film fell flat. SO I'm placing my trust in JJ Abrams and Star Trek: Into Darkness to revive my sense of wonder and astonishment. BUT. If this weekend's JJ Trek doesn't deliver and the impending Man of Steel lands hard in June (and I survive the blood loss I'll suffer after poking my eyes out with a paper clip if it sucks), then truly, truly Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim will surely blow me away.

The evidence is in this bad-ass robot/monster ocean/street-fight-battle trailer. In it we get to see more of the 'Kaiju', the Godzilla-like creatures that attempt to destroy Earth, and we learn about how the spine-tingling awesome giant-robot-tech works. Seriously. Giant Gundams versus Giant Godzillas all powered by a wicked chugging soundtrack underscore with a 'kick-some-ass and save the planet' motivational speech delivered by Idris Elba thrown in for good measure?

Meet me out back right now. I have your money.
