“This is not the year to wait until the last minute,” UPS spokesperson Dawn Wotapka said. The big shippers are recommending online shoppers do their shopping, and shipping early this year.

This goes for small businesses, too.  Paulette Bonneur, owner of Harper & Hunter, LLC, says “I think one of the most important things to remember is to get your items in early,” Bonneur said. “We want to get everything out to you and your family so you can enjoy this holiday season because we know how much it means.”

Shipping consultants, ShipMatrix estimates that between Thanksgiving and Christmas, 3 billion packages will be shipped. Up about 800 Million from last year.

The big shipping companies say they are prepared for the increased demand for shipping. Shannon Davis Ford of FedEx says “With more than 500,000 dedicated team members, the strength and reach of our global network, and a significant investment in our facilities and fleet, we are well positioned to meet the peak demand,”

Of course, all shippers will be offering an more expensive options closer to Christmas.
