The Top 10 Pianists In Rock History
As a pianist (I'm typically a guitarist), I know how much time and effort goes into becoming an acceptable musician – let alone one who makes a top 10 list. It’s a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. There are A LOT of good pianists out there – and that means it’s gonna be a little difficult to narrow it down to a list of 10, but I’m gonna do my very best.
Although there are plenty of great musicians in other genres, the rock bassists have always been among my favorites, so that’s what we’re looking at today. In my personal opinion, here are the top 10 pianists in rock-n-roll (in no particular order.)
1. Elton John
2. Eddie Van Halen (yes, his piano playing counts)
3. Stevie Wonder
4. Rick Wakeman - Yes
5. Richard Wright - Pink Floyd
6. Jordan Rudess - Dream Theater
7. Billy Joel
8. Jon Lord - Deep Purple
9. Ray Manzarek - The Doors
10. Little Richard
Honestly, if I had to pick one of these guys to be my favorite, I'd probably go with Eddie Van Halen. Obviously, he's known better for his monstrous guitar playing, but honestly, his skills on a piano are pretty remarkable. The guy could shred on both. "Right Now" is one of my favorite Van Halen tunes and it really showcases his skills on both instruments.
