His real breakthrough was discovered from a pop standard so established that Jack Webb (yea Sgt Joe Friday, Dragnet) had already covered the song in 1958.

The big inspiration came from drummer Al Jackson ( founder of Booker T and The MG’s)and his double time high-hat, yet Otis did a transformation of the sentimental tune into a call for romantic devotion. After that it spiraled into a frenzy only a fade could contain.
