"Serve and Protect" has a basic foundation of meaning. "Help When Needed and Don't Let Die If At All Possible" is a translation that works for me.

A pair of cops in Kalamazoo, Michigan had a different translation for a disabled resident. When they noticed the wheelchair-bound man trying to mow his lawn, they decided to help him out. Officers Joe Hutson and John Khillah put their landscaping skills to use.

PSO Hutson took over lawn mowing duties: while PSO Khillah made a pit stop at the local Public Safety Station and returned with another lawn mower, as well as a weed trimmer and a leaf blower.

The officers then proceeded to manicure the disabled citizen's lawn, with an additional officer - Sgt Ken Skibbe - assisting with yard work.

So when they get "too old for this sh*t" (see: Lethal Weapon), they have a post-law enforcement career ready to go...with references!

But seriously, kudos to these officers. The Kalamazoo Police Department's Facebook page is quite uplifting, check it out if you could use a smile!
