If you're driving a Hyundai or Kia vehicle around central Minnesota today, heads-up -- those automakers have recalled a combined 168,000 vehicles due to an engine fire risk.

This recall covers some vehicles as old nine years. In June, Kia recalled 500,000 vehicles over concerns that air bags might not inflate.

The current engine fire hazard recall includes:

  • Some 2011-2014 Kia Optima cars.
  • Some 2012-2014 Kia Sorrento SUVs.
  • Some 2011-2013 Kia Sportage SUVs.
  • Some 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonata cars.
  • Some 2013-2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport SUVs.

If you own an affected vehicle, Hyundai and Kia say you will be notified. Dealers will check the parts in question and replace (for free) if necessary.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), which handles safety notifications and recalls is currently closed due to the partial government shutdown.
