I think anyone who has lived in this area for any length of time understands what this is.  And with the holidays fast approaching, most of us will experience this at least on some level.  The long Minnesota good-bye. It takes forever.  Sometimes like an hour.  So, if you are planning to leave at a certain time, you need to start that "Welp...I suppose..." about 45 min before you absolutely have to leave.

Here are the 9 stages of the long Minnesota good-bye...

1. THE WELP (as mentioned above) this gets you at least up and people around you know that you are at least thinking about leaving.

2. THE HUGS

3. THE WALK TO THE DOOR

4. THE DOORWAY CHAT

5. SECOND ROUND OF HUGS

6. HAND ON THE DOORKNOB

7. THE SLOW OPENING OF THE DOOR

8. SLOW OPEN CONVERSATION as you walk down the driveway to your car, you discuss anything kind of trivial that comes to mind.

9. THE WINDOW WAVE  and maybe a few honks as you drive away.

Happy Holidays!
