Rod Stewart toured with Stevie Nicks last year, he'll hit the road with Steve Winwood later this fall and he's daydreaming about a series of dates with Elton John. But don't hold your breath for any shows with Stewart's old partner Jeff Beck.

They've known one another for years and even worked together on occasion, but Rod Stewart and Elton John's long friendship has never led to a full-fledged tour -- something Stewart would like to rectify before it's too late.

Rod Stewart has taken his punches over the years. First in the late '70s for his disco hit 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' and most recently for his series of albums featuring a bunch of old songs your grandma and grandpa used to get busy to back in the day. But before all that, he was one of rock's greatest singers.

Deep cuts and rarities from the early years of Rod Stewart's solo career are seeing the light of day in a new compilation, due this fall.

It seems when there are rumblings of a band member talking solo career, the bands tend to dissolve. Rod Stewart actually pursued his solo career before his participation with The Jeff Beck group, as well as; during and after his six years with Faces.

Rod Stewart's sixth album, 'Atlantic Crossing' was released in August 1975 and by that time Rod's solo career had flourished big time. Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood was already  working with The Rolling Stones.

When we talk of Rod Stewart's solo career we generally think of what progressed after 'Faces' broke up in 1975, but Rod had actually started his solo career before he even joined the band.

There wasn't any question at most that the critics were pretty harsh with their reviews on 'Foot Loose and Fancy Free', but sales were a different story.

By this time disco is now alive and well, while a lot of artists seemed stymied by the new craze and decided to stay with their established styles, Rod went with the flow.

The album, 'A Night On The Town' in itself is a very unique album because similar to 'Atlantic Crossing" this album offered harder rock and softer, slower songs which were separated into distinct groups.

No this is not another one of Rod's pop song cover albums, this is old Rod doing an original album of rock and his first since 2001.

Every time we talk classic rock we manage to always mention groups like The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Styx, John Fogerty, Deep Purple, Rod Stewart, and Judas Priest before it's all said and done.
